The Time Machine

Summary

In "The Time Machine," a Victorian scientist invents a device that propels him to the year 802,701 AD. He discovers a seemingly utopian Earth inhabited by the Eloi, a peaceful, childlike human race. However, he soon uncovers a dark truth beneath the surface: the Morlocks, a subterranean, ape-like species that toils in the dark and feeds on the Eloi. When his machine is stolen, he must descend into their terrifying underground world to retrieve it, narrowly escaping to witness the dying, apocalyptic days of Earth before returning home to tell his unbelievable tale.
